How a job comes together

A job in Bit & Grain ties a client, a punch list, a materials list, a labor log, an estimate, an invoice, and a P&L view together. Open a job and you see the work, the cost, and the margin in one place.

Status flows from Lead → Quoted → Scheduled → In Progress → Completed → Invoiced → Paid. Every status change carries the data forward, the estimate becomes the invoice, the materials become line items, the labor hours feed the P&L.

  • Punch list with assignable tasks and per-task notes.
  • Materials list with unit, quantity, and per-line cost, feeds estimates and invoices.
  • Labor log per crew member or subcontractor.
  • Per-job P&L: revenue, materials cost, labor cost, gross margin, live as the job runs.
  • Photo capture from mobile, attached to the job timeline.
  • Status transitions logged with timestamps for the audit trail.

Why a job is the center of the product

Most trade tools treat jobs as one tab among many, clients, calendar, invoices, jobs. We turned that on its head. The job is the unit of work that pays the bills, so it's the unit the whole product is organized around.

Click a job and you can see who the client is, what materials are on order, what the schedule looks like, what change orders the customer approved, and whether you're making money, without jumping between five disconnected screens.

  • Client lookup, contact, and history, one click from the job page.
  • Schedule and appointments, visible in the job timeline.
  • Materials and purchase orders, wired to the job's materials list.
  • Estimate and invoice, generated from the job's data, never from scratch.
  • Service log and change orders, the running record of what actually happened.

Free-tier limits

Free includes 3 active jobs at a time. Mark a job complete and you free the slot for the next one. Pro removes the cap, unlimited active jobs, useful when you're running multiple crews or multi-month projects in parallel.

Everything else about job management, punch lists, materials, P&L, the workflow, is identical between Free and Pro. The cap is on simultaneous active jobs, not on what jobs can do.

Available on the Free tier.
