Track the real cost and profit of every job
Bit & Grain now tracks the real cost and profit of every job, from the materials you buy to the ones you actually use on site.
Each job now has a P&L tab that shows what you estimated, what the job actually cost, and the difference between the two. The actual cost is broken out into materials, labor, and expenses, so you can see exactly where the money went instead of staring at one lump-sum number. There is also a new Expenses tab on every job that lists each receipt and expense tagged to that work: vendor, amount, date, category, and a link to the receipt. Before this, your costs were scattered across receipts and the profitability report, and the numbers did not always agree. Now the job page and the report read from the same place.
Here is the part that matters on a real job. Say you buy a box of fittings and a few hundred feet of pipe and stock them in your truck. When you scan that receipt, those materials go into your inventory at what you paid. When you pull pipe onto the Wilson bathroom remodel, you add it from inventory with a couple of taps, and the job is charged only for what you actually mark as used, not the whole box. If you carry that leftover pipe to the next job, the cost follows it instead of getting buried in the first job's books. Your inventory is now split into stock (the materials you consume) and assets (the tools you keep), and your running quantities and values stay correct as you go. You can also set a default material markup in your business settings so the price you charge a client builds in automatically when you turn a job into an estimate.
You will find the new tabs on any job under Materials, Expenses, and P&L; the stock and asset split and the Add from inventory picker live on the job's Materials tab and in your Equipment list; the default markup is under Settings, then Business. Here's how to start: open a job, tap P&L, and check the estimated versus actual numbers, then set your default material markup so your next estimate prices materials for you. It's available on every plan.
